The problem
Gelcoat and yacht paint lose their finish long before they fail
A yacht finish in South Florida is fighting salt spray, UV, dock lines, fenders, tenders, boarding traffic and cleaning cycles at the same time. Nothing here is dramatic on its own; the damage is cumulative. Boot stripes haze, transoms pick up scuffing, and the areas around cleats, hatches and boarding gates dull first.
Paint protection film moves that wear onto a clear, replaceable urethane layer. Cut and fitted to the panel, the film takes the abrasion and spray, and the finish underneath stays as it was delivered. When the film has served its life, it is professionally removed.
Scope
Where film goes on a yacht or superyacht
- 01Topsides and transom. Hull sides, transom faces, boot stripe and swim platform surrounds — the panels most exposed to spray, docking contact and reflected sun.
- 02High-contact zones. Boarding gates, steps, hatch surrounds, cleat and chock areas, tender contact points and handrail bases.
- 03Hardtops and superstructure. Painted panels, hardtop edges and radar arch faces that are difficult to refinish once they haze.
- 04Interior stone and joinery. Galley counters, dining tables, bar tops and vanity surfaces protected with XPEL Ultimate Plus.
- 05Tenders and toys. Tender hulls and consoles that live on chocks or a hydraulic platform and take the worst of the handling.
- 06New-build and refit delivery. Film specified at handover so a freshly painted vessel is protected before it goes into service.
XPEL Ultimate Plus
Countertop and stone surface protection
Marble, quartzite and other natural stone surfaces are beautiful and unforgiving. Acidic drinks etch them, hardware scratches them, and on a vessel they take that treatment while underway.
XPEL Ultimate Plus surface protection is applied over the stone to guard against stains, scratches and etching. It is anti-microbial, and it enhances the finish of the surface it protects. We install it on yacht galleys and dining surfaces as well as in residential kitchens and bars.
- Resists staining from wine, citrus, coffee and cleaning products
- Absorbs the day-to-day scratching that dulls a polished slab
- Anti-microbial film surface
- Removable by a professional without replacing the stone
How we work
A marine film project, start to finish
Vessel assessment
We look at the vessel where it lies, review the finish condition, and agree which panels and surfaces are worth filming.
Written scope and quote
You receive a scope that names each area, the film specified, the schedule and what the three-year marine warranty covers.
Surface preparation
Film only performs on a properly decontaminated, dry surface. Preparation is the part of the job that decides how the edges look in two years.
Installation
Panels are filmed to fit, with edges wrapped or relieved as the panel allows, and work is staged around your crew, yard schedule or haul-out.
Walkthrough and care guidance
We walk the finished work with you or the captain and hand over washing and maintenance guidance for the specific film installed.
Marine FAQs
Questions owners and captains ask
More detail on scheduling, care and coverage is on the frequently asked questions page.
What is marine paint protection film?
Marine paint protection film is a clear, self-healing urethane film that is cut and applied over gelcoat, painted topsides, transoms and high-contact hardware areas. It takes the abrasion, docking scuffs, salt spray and UV exposure that would otherwise reach the finish underneath, and it can be removed by a professional when it reaches the end of its service life.
What warranty comes with your marine protection work?
Our marine surface protection carries a three-year warranty. We will confirm exactly what is covered for your vessel in writing before installation begins.
Can protective film be applied to stone countertops?
Yes. XPEL Ultimate Plus surface protection can be applied to countertops to guard against stains, scratches and etching. It is also anti-microbial and enhances the finish of the stone. This is a common request on yacht galleys and dining surfaces as well as in residences.
How should I care for the film after installation?
Wash with a mild, non-abrasive soap and clean water, avoid pressure washing directly at film edges, and skip solvent-heavy or abrasive cleaners. We provide care guidance specific to the film installed on your project.
Private assessment
Every surface is quoted in person
We look at the vessel, the glass or the stone before we discuss scope. Call the studio or send project details and we will arrange an appointment in Miami-Dade, Broward or Palm Beach County.
